My heart goes out to the victims of the enormous tragedy in Japan. I feel a real need to go, to document this event. I was sent to Kobe for the earthquake in 1995 for the International Red Cross. The devastation I saw then was nothing short of amazing, and this is much, much worse. Sixteen years ago things were very different: there were no cell phones, no digital cameras, barely an internet. The flow of information was difficult, and so I appreciate the work all the journalists are doing to keep us all informed. My prayers are with you, Japan.
